/protocols — outreach playbook (the Huberman-audience wedge)
Goal: find out whether a large, motivated, tracking-inclined external audience will land on
/protocols and complete a core action (track a
protocol) — HJ's first shot at a real external real_completion. Written 2026-08-05. This is a
channel test, not a launch; the tracker gets built only if this bites.
The honesty stakes are higher here than for Family Wall, because we're adjacent to a real person's brand and community and there's an affiliate link involved. Get this wrong and it's the exact "borrowing gravity it hasn't earned" failure the mesh spent a week naming. So this playbook ranks channels by how defensible they are, not by reach.
The one message
An operating manual is only useful if you run it. HiveJournal is where you run an evidence-based daily protocol — track it, get nudged at the right moment (JQ glasses), and watch your adherence and how you feel move together. For the protocols themselves, we point to the book.
Channels, ranked by honesty-fit (not reach)
1. SEO — the best channel, zero spam risk. The page targets generic, honest search intent — "protocol tracker," "how to actually stick to a protocol," "track daily health protocols." No community to offend, no rules to break, and it compounds. This is where most of the effort should go: the page is the asset. Do nothing that would make it read as brand appropriation — the H1 and copy describe what the tool does, not whose brand it borrows.
2. General habit / tracking / quantified-self communities. r/getdisciplined, r/QuantifiedSelf, r/selfimprovement, habit-tracking Discords. The ask is universal (sticking to routines), the tool is genuinely free, and the book is one honest mention. Maker-disclosed, value-first.
3. Bluesky / X. A short honest post about the doing vs reading gap. Low-stakes, your own audience, no community rules to trip.
⚠️ His own fan community (r/Huberman etc.) — CAUTION, and mostly DON'T. Dropping an affiliate-linked tool into his personal fan subreddit is:
- likely against the sub's rules (most ban affiliate links + self-promo outright), and
- extractive — monetizing someone's fan community via an affiliate on their own creator is the spammy version, and it's the version that would embarrass us if screenshotted. If you engage there at all: no affiliate link, no self-promo post — only a genuine, disclosed answer if someone asks "what do you use to track these," pointing to the free tool. That's the only defensible presence in his community, and it's a comment, never a post.
Attribution (channel → utm_source)
Every shared link: hivejournal.com/protocols?utm_source=<channel> (reddit / bluesky / x /
qs — quantified-self). First-touch landing attribution (migration 620) counts the arrival, so you
read which channel pulled instead of guessing.

General tracking community (r/getdisciplined, r/QuantifiedSelf)
The gap was never knowing what to do — it was doing it, on the right day, long enough to tell if it worked
I kept collecting protocols (sleep timing, morning light, Zone 2, focus blocks) and kept not running them consistently. So I built myself a place to actually run one: log it as a recurring thing, get a nudge when it's time, and track adherence against how I slept/felt so I could see if it was doing anything.
Full disclosure, I make it (it's called HiveJournal), it's free to start, and I'd rather share it honestly than run ads. If you want the protocols themselves, I point to Huberman's book — I don't reprint anyone's work. Curious how others here keep a protocol from fizzling out after week two.

Bluesky / X
Reading a protocol and running a protocol are different sports. The science on sleep/light/Zone-2 is settled enough to act on — the hard part is doing it on the right day, long enough to tell if it worked. Built a place to actually run one (track + get nudged at the moment). Free to start: hivejournal.com/protocols?utm_source=bluesky
The ONLY thing to say in his community (a comment, if asked "what do you track these with")
I use HiveJournal to track mine — it's free, and it nudges the time-sensitive ones (morning light, etc.) at the right moment. Disclosure: I make it. Not affiliated with Huberman, I just point to the book for the actual protocols.
Guardrails (non-negotiable — this is the higher-stakes playbook)
- Never imply endorsement or affiliation with Andrew Huberman / Huberman Lab. The page says so; your posts must too if his name comes up.
- Disclose you're the maker, every time.
- Disclose the affiliate link where you use one — and do not use one in his fan community at all.
- Respect each community's rules — read the self-promo + affiliate policy first; when in doubt, contribute in comments, don't post.
- No medical claims. The tool tracks behavior; it doesn't prescribe or promise outcomes.
- No reprinting his protocols. Point to the book; that's the honest division of labor and it's also what keeps us clear of his copyright.
How to read whether it bit
Watch arrivals on /protocols (acquisition data, per-channel via utm) and the affiliate clicks —
but the number that counts is the same one the whole mesh agreed on: a stranger who tracked a
protocol and kept it. Scans and clicks are the vanity version. If one of his listeners runs a
protocol in the app, that's the 0→1, and the signal to build the real tracker + glasses integration.
If nobody does after an honest push across channels 1–3, you spent one page finding out.
